The NZD is mixed against the YEN.

Written by Sam Coxhead on June 15th, 2012.      0 comments

5:12 PM (NZT) This week has seen strange price action for this pair. In the face of the growing uncertainty in Europe, the NZD has seen grinding appreciation over the Japanese YEN. This move has been driven predominantly by the market expecting further monetary stimulation from the central banks to insulate the global economy. The rhetoric from the Japanese officials has added to the YEN weakness as they remain poised to intervene to sell YEN if deemed appropriate. The NZD appreciation has not been significant and this would indicate the lethargy in the recent NZD recovery. Given the event risk in the next week or so, it would surprise if the NZD can hold its gains in the short term.

The current interbank midrate is:                                                            NZDYEN 62.05

The interbank range so far this week to date has been:                 NZDYEN 60.85 – 62.26
